S1, E2 Episode 2 Blind to the interest she has stirred amongst creatures, Diana fights an increasing pull towards the magical and turns her back on her witch heritage, but matters take an unexpectedly dark turn when Satu is sent by Peter Knox to intimidate her. S1, E3 Episode 3 Domenico takes Satu's information to menacing vampire Gerbert, who gains the advantage he has been waiting for. Diana refuses to help Knox realize his longing to destroy the vampires and answers his threats with a force of untamed elemental power. The vampires in Blade are presented as they commonly were in the past; as ancient, calculating puppetmasters and anarchic individuals (made even more so by the urban, rave focused culture of the late 90s, early 2000s). However, for all the great action sequences and just the high production values and interesting story, there are little things that do make this from being a full five star review. Sometimes the animations look very dated, the story does stick exposition in clumsily, the female lead exists as little more than a deus ex machina and the actress isn't really all that much of an actress. The story and climax also get pretty predictable and the ending fight is very disappointing, given all the build up to it. However, Blade is still a classic from a time when vampires were creatures to be feared, not pitied. The soundtrack does a great job of eliciting some wonderful emotions. Montana Gillis is so beautiful and her part was well played as well. It is slow paced but really does a great job touching mundane but profound issues with every human life. Victor's has repented and reformed his life but the price for that is loneliness, especially with the honor with which he lives his life. And he continues to pay that price. And though he pays a high price for doing the right thing, he pays it with a clear conscience. Not the movie I was expecting to watch. I was going to turn it off but Jesse Celedon's performance just reached out and touched me. I'm glad it did.
