Even today in what is a golden age of film making (and don't let any stuck up critic tell you it is not) very few films really make you feel connected to the characters in this way, films like Trainspotting, Twin Town, Human Traffic and now Football Factory are a very unusual thing and seem to be specific to the British film industry right at the moment. Maybe it's just I am personally more able to relate to them having grown up around such cultures, I don't know, I just know that I am glad I bought this film and would recommend anyone watch it if only for a better understanding of the culture at that time, something I am proud to say we have made huge strides to eradicate in this country.

It was so close to being great and brilliant, but there were several things that knocked it way back down to 2. 5 stars, which is what I give it. The script is near brilliant, but the directing, production design and budget were just too amateur. It had a low budget feel to it, and the movie suffered tremendously for it. I feel like I would have given this 4-4. 5 stars (which I don't usually do) had it been high budget, and creatively done, and with a much more talented cast. I would just say emphatically that I would have LOVED to see this movie directed by Danny Boyle. It would have been awesome to see what he could have done with this. Even Guy Ritchie would have been great for this. I rented this off of the strength of Danny Dyer in "Human Traffic. " His performance there was one of the best of my lifetime.

Neither, for that matter, will you see a waving scarf., `The Football Factory' is about one thing and one thing only: hooligans. Sure, they're hooligans who attach themselves to one English football club or another (in this case Chelsea). But, if they're also football supporters, it's certainly not something writer-director Nick Love has any interest in. A fter all, at no point in the film is football even spoken about. You've got to hand it to Love though he's assembled a convincing band of Guy Ritchie cast-off types, and his scenes of inner-city street warfare are frighteningly realistic. But there's no discernable plotline, no form of redemption for any of our characters, and nobody for the right-thinking viewer to side with. Yup, there's a moral lesson thrown in for our lead protagonist, but it never looks like it's been included as anything more than a minor afterthought in an extremely weak effort to justify the film's existence. Without a shadow of a doubt, this is a film that revels in its subject matter.
