En la película, Rochefort es caracterizado como un personaje siniestro y tuerto (al igual que las versiones de 1973 y de 1974 de Richard Lester), que mató al padre de D'Artagnan. En la novela, pese a ser uno de los antagonistas, no era tan malo y sólo tenía una cicatriz en el rostro, Constance tiene un papel pequeño en la película como la amada de D'Artagnan. En la novela tiene mayor protagonismo: está casada con Monsieur Bonacieux, el casero de D'Artagnan, y muere tras ser envenenada por Milady, mientras se encontraba refugiada en un convento. Un hecho histórico del que se hace mención en la película y que el libro no profundiza es la muerte del anterior rey y padre de Luis XIII. En un ejercicio ficticio, la película señala que el padre de D'Artagnan trató de salvarlo, pero murió en el intento a manos de un mosquetero traidor que no era otro que Rochefort.
