[1] The 52-hertz calls of this whale are highly variable in their pattern of repetition, duration, and sequence, although they are easily identifiable due to their frequency and characteristic clustering. [6] The calls have deepened slightly to around 50 hertz since 1992, suggesting the whale has grown or matured. [4] The track of the 52-hertz whale is unrelated to the presence or movement of other whale species. [7] Its movements have been somewhat similar to that of blue whales, but its timing has been more like that of fin whales. [6] It is detected in the Pacific Ocean every year beginning in August–December, and moves out of range of the hydrophones in January–February. It travels as far north as the Aleutian and Kodiak Islands, and as far south as the California coast, swimming between 30 and 70 km each day. Its recorded distance traveled per season has ranged from a low of 708 km to a high of 11, 062 km in 2002–03.

See more awards » Edit Storyline Mike Maquinna returns to his home town of Gold River on Vancouver Island to attend the funeral of his father, Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations Chief Ambrose Maquinna. With a troubled past including alcoholism, Mike does not intend on staying to claim his rightful place as Chief, but intends on returning to his current life as a logger in Bella Coola. Meanwhile, a lone Orca whale - dubbed Luna by western media - has been spotted in the area, the whale unusually socialized to boats and humans. Luna, suspected to be a missing juvenile from a pod now living south of the area in Puget Sound, becomes a public sensation, both as a spectacle and a human interest story. The Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) administration, led by Ted Jeffries, plans on reuniting Luna with his pod, which means capturing the young Orca. This move by DFO does not sit well with Mike and the band, who see the spirit of Ambrose inhabited within Luna. They feel it best for Luna to decide where he chooses to...

Both he and Monk knew that Biederbeck wouldn't kill anyone over such a petty sum (as he said with a laugh, "I wouldn't bend down to pick up $1, 200 - I mean, even if I could") but until the killer was caught, the prison refused to install Biederbeck's window.

However, Monk foiled this plot, and exposed everyone's involvement in it. The hitman Dale used to frame Monk and plant the bomb was arrested, the Lieutenant Governor was indicted and almost certainly imprisoned, and Dale was stripped of nearly all the privileges he had previously enjoyed. Monk has a final prison conversation with Dale, who was clearly furious over being beaten again, and left while saying, "Have a nice life, Dale. " He and Natalie walked away while an enraged Dale angrily ranted at him. He bellowed "Get back here, Monk! I'M NOT DOOOOONE! Someday Bernard and Joan will be old and will delight in their grandchildren, who will no doubt be miserable about the flaws and transgressions of Walt and Frank, and then create great achievements and angry children of their own.

I don't know what I'm supposed to feel during "The Squid and the Whale. " Sympathy, I suppose, for two bright boys whose parents are getting a messy divorce. Both parents are writers and use words as weapons; the boys choose sides and join the war. In theory I observe their errors and sadness and think, there but for the grace of God go I. In practice, I feel envy. I would have loved to have two writers as parents, and grow up in a bohemian family in Brooklyn, and hear dinner-table conversation about Dickens. These kids have it great. Their traumas will inspire them someday. Hell, the movie was written and directed by Noah Baumbach, whose parents were writers (the novelist Jonathan Baumbach, the film critic Georgia Brown), and look how he turned out. By the time he was 26 he had already directed " Kicking and Screaming " (1995), about sardonic and literate college graduates whose only ambition was to remain on campus. I felt the same way. Left to my own devices, I would still be a student of English literature, entering my 44th year as an undergraduate.
